About heavy periods

Has your heavy period been keeping you away?

One in five women live with very heavy periods. Periods that get in the way of everyday life. Periods that keep you from the people you love and the things you enjoy. NovaSure® is a one-time, five-minute procedure that can lighten or end your heavy period. No pills. No hormonal side effects. For 90% of women, menstrual bleeding is dramatically reduced or stopped. It’s a simple procedure that can be done in your doctor’s office, usually for the cost of a copay.

You can choose permanent contraception and still stop heavy periods.

If you suffer from heavy periods, staying on birth control pills or hormones is not the only option you have to control your heavy bleeding.

In fact, hormone therapy tends to be a poor long-term treatment option for most patients because of poor bleeding control, side effects, and the need for daily compliance (if you're taking
the pill)*.

NovaSure: the one-time, five minute procedure for heavy periods.

If you are considering having or have had Adiana® Permanent Contraception, there may be another option that can put a stop to your heavy periods: NovaSure Endometrial Ablation.

NovaSure is an endometrial ablation (EA) procedure that can reduce or stop heavy menstrual bleeding. It works by permanently removing the endometrium, or the lining of the uterus (the part that causes the bleeding), with a quick delivery of radiofrequency energy.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: NovaSure is for premenopausal women with heavy periods due to benign causes who are finished childbearing. Pregnancy following NovaSure can be dangerous. NovaSure is not for those who have or suspect uterine cancer, have an active genital, urinary or pelvic infection, an IUD or a metal uterine implant. NovaSure is not a sterilization procedure. Rare but serious risks include but are not limited to thermal injury, perforation and infection. Temporary side effects may include cramping, nausea, vomiting, discharge and spotting.

If you’re considering both Adiana Permanent Contraception and NovaSure Endometrial Ablation, you must have the Adiana procedure performed first.

Both the Adiana and NovaSure procedures are only for women who do not wish to have any children in the future. In women who are candidates for both procedures, the Adiana procedure must be done first. After the 3 month waiting period, the Adiana HSG confirms that the fallopian tubes are fully blocked and it is no longer possible to become pregnant. At that point, the NovaSure procedure can be performed.

Talk to your doctor to find out more about both the Adiana and NovaSure procedures.
