Is permanent contraception right for me?
Are you thinking about permanent contraception? Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I know for sure that I do not want any children in the future?
- Do I want a permanent method of birth control?
- Am I tired of the risks and hassles of temporary birth control?
- Do I have a hard time remembering to take pills every day?
- Do I want a method of birth control that allows for spontaneity?
- Do I have any health problems that might make pregnancy unsafe for me or an unborn child?
- Do I want to enjoy intimacy in the future without worrying about getting pregnant?
- Am I concerned about the long-term use of hormones for birth control?
- Are heavy periods also an issue for me?
If you've answered "yes" to any of these, you may want to talk to your doctor about permanent contraception.
You should not consider permanent contraception if you:
- Think there is any chance you may want children in the future
- Have any doubts about ending your fertility
- Are in a time of stress, such as after a divorce or breakup, miscarriage, injury, loss of a job, or any traumatic experience
- Are feeling pressured into the decision by anyone else
